China expands network of national and regional pediatric medical centers
The National Health Commission has announced that more national pediatric medical centers will be established to improve access to quality childcare services.
In a notice released on its official website on Wednesday, the commission said that two regional pediatric medical centers — one in Shenyang, Liaoning province, and the other in Guangzhou, Guangdong province — will be upgraded to the national level.
In addition, five pediatric hospitals in the provinces of Shanxi, Jiangsu, Hunan and Yunnan, as well as Tianjin municipality, will be designated as regional centers for pediatric care.
These hospitals are required to provide high-quality pediatric healthcare, build child-friendly hospitals, and play a leading role in enhancing the overall pediatric diagnosis and treatment capacity.
China now has a total of five national pediatric centers and nine regional pediatric centers.
