NEW YORK - Tourists from home and abroad are sharing the tension and excitement of US Election Day at Times Square, dubbed "the Crossroads of the World", thanks to a live coverage by a US cable news channel.

Cable News Network on Tuesday brought Election Night in America to Times Square in New York City, updating the audience, mostly tourists, with the latest from the US presidential election.

At the junction of 47th Street and Broadway, two jumbo screens of CNN have been opened to the public since 4 pm Tuesday providing services to the public.

Spectators may watch CNN's election coverage, share their Election Day stories via iReport, play election trivia and create mementos at the social media-enabled photo booth on site. CNN-branded food carts serve coffee, hot chocolate, pretzels and hot dogs to attendees.

Marko, a middle-aged tourist from Holland, standing before the screen and watching the "big show", said to Xinhua that the US election is more a show compared to the boring ones in Holland. "It is a big show about no plan versus bad plan." He thought Barack Obama had no plan, while Mitt Romney had a bad plan about the country's future.

"But for me, this is only an interesting experience, it is just politics," Marko said.

Russian tourist Lenchik showed great interest in all the Election Night events. She kept taking pictures of the screens and big election signs. "Before I came here, I have already known about the big event. It is really interesting," she noted.

A young Mexican girl was passing by, saying loudly that she preferred Obama. "I will not sleep tonight until the results come out," she added.
