It is simply a matter of ethics. If a teacher shows favoritism based on a gift they have received from a student or for any other reason then they need to be reprimanded. The school system should have enough faith in the teachers not to act in such a manner. I see nothing wrong with showing appreciation to our teachers for what they do for so little.
