Henderson Gaoxin No.1 High School, Kunming

Henderson Gaoxin No.1 High School, Kunming is a state-owned secondary school, jointly run by Henderson Investment Holding Group and State-owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. Established in 2004 after being approved by the Bureau of Education in the High-tech Zone, the school boasts a beautiful campus environment and first-class facilities.

With 2,498 students and 47 classes, the school has 141 full-time teachers, among which there are two special-class teachers, 36 senior teachers, over 90 teachers ranked first-class or higher, and 16 core teachers or academic leaders above district (county)-level.

Focused on "fully implementing the education policies, promoting quality education and improving the quality of education" since its opening, the school conforms to the education philosophy of "laying the foundation for the students’ whole life and being responsible for the nation's future" and strives to build a first-class school in Yunnan province that meets the different requirements of different people. Gradually, it has become a school characterized by “foreign language orientation, humanities and diversity.”

The school has always integrated into every aspect of its teaching activities the principle of cultivating talent with “sound health, mentality and character; good learning methods; broad horizon and strong individuality”. In recent years, the school has demonstrated steady improvements in the results of both senior high school and college entrance examinations, far surpassing similar schools of the same level in the junior high school proficiency test.

In 2013, 479 students took part in the junior high school proficiency test, and over 360 passed the minimum entrance score of first-class complete schools, with a comprehensive passing rate of 77 percent. The average score of the test at the school was 723, 160 points higher than the average in Kunming. As for the college entrance examination, students were constantly breaking new records in terms of high scores and elevating the overall low scores.

Students achieved all-around development, standing out in a number of national, provincial, municipal and district competitions and winning multiple gold medals. The school has won provincial, municipal and district commendation more than 10 times. In 2012, the school won the title of Innovative School in China; 2012-2015 Subject Experimental School; National Creative Writing Practice Base for Middle School Students; Good School in Kunming; Advanced Collective in Terms of Security Construction & Social Security, Fire Security, Safety in Production and Education. It was appraised by the Bureau of Education in the High-tech Zone as the only school to be accredited as excellent in the annual examination in this area.

The school passed the district-level assessment of first-class complete school in October 2013, Provincial Demonstration School of Modern Education and crowned as a Language Demonstration School, marking a further improvement of the school’s comprehensive strength.
