Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Tuesday that China and Malaysia should safeguard the fruits of victory in World War II, and not allow anyone to turn back the wheel of history.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Raja Dato' Nushirwan bin Zainal Abidin, director-general of Malaysia's National Security Council.

Nushirwan is in China to attend the second Bilateral Dialogue between China and Malaysia on the Management of Maritime Issues in the South China Sea.

Wang praised Malaysia for consistently adhering to the one-China principle and for clearly stating its opposition to any actions or statements that support "Taiwan independence".

He called for the two sides to support each other in safeguarding their core interests and jointly upholding international fairness and justice.

He stressed the importance of fully leveraging the maritime dialogue platform to deepen practical cooperation, properly manage and resolve differences, and jointly promote a new narrative of peace, stability and mutually beneficial development in the South China Sea.

Wang also emphasized strengthening solidarity and collaboration to jointly oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism, safeguard the multilateral trading system, and inject greater stability into the global economy.

Nushirwan reaffirmed Malaysia's adherence to the one-China policy. Noting the dialogue had achieved positive outcomes, he expressed Malaysia's willingness to work with China to implement consensus including joint research to safeguard maritime peace and stability.

Both countries should further enhance multilateral cooperation to maintain regional peace, stability and shared prosperity, he added.
