Foreign Minister Wang Yi voiced on Thursday China's support for Thailand and Cambodia to enhance communication and consultation following their agreement on a ceasefire over a border clash last month, saying Beijing is ready to provide necessary assistance in line with the two countries' wishes.

Wang made the remarks in Anning, Southwest China's Yunnan province, during talks with Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa.

Maris, who is in China for the 10th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting from Thursday to Friday, highly commended China's objective and impartial position and its constructive role in helping to cool the tensions.

Wang said that China supports Thailand and Cambodia in rebuilding their mutual trust, and restoring friendly relations, and supports ASEAN in resolving its internal issues through the ASEAN Way.

Speaking of the China-Thailand relationship, which enters its 50th year this year, Wang said the two sides have consistently supported each other and deepened practical cooperation across various fields despite changes in the international landscape.

At this new historical starting point, China is ready to work with Thailand to implement the leaders' consensus, speed up the construction of the China-Thailand railway, and expand cooperation in green development, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence, Wang said.

Noting that China encourages more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Thailand, Wang said Beijing hopes that Thailand will provide more policy support and facilitation for Chinese enterprises.

He also called on the two countries to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, and organize the second half of the 50th anniversary celebrations to solidify the foundation of public support for the China-Thailand friendship.

Speaking of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism, which is characterized by practicality, high efficiency, and mutual benefit, Wang said it has become the most successful sub-regional cooperation mechanism.

As the LMC enters its 10th year and stands at a crucial juncture, the foreign ministers' meeting in Anning — a name meaning peace, goodwill and harmony — should, he said, fully reflect joint efforts to safeguard unity and cooperation, and uphold regional peace and stability.

Maris, for his part, hailed the fruitful outcomes achieved in Thailand-China relations over the past 50 years.

He said Bangkok looks forward to working with Beijing to promote steady and healthy growth of bilateral ties, deepen friendship, and deliver more results in both bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the next 50 years.

Anning is a beautiful, modern city that embodies China's development philosophy and achievements, offering valuable lessons for Thailand, Maris added.
