China urged India and Pakistan on Thursday to remain calm and exercise restraint from taking actions that would complicate the situation, after the border clash between the two nations killed 31 Pakistani civilians and injured another 57 on Wednesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to "avenge the blood of our innocent martyrs" in the strike in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

China is concerned about the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan, which are each other's neighbor and both China's neighbors, Lin told a daily news conference.

China opposes all forms of terrorism, Lin stressed, calling on both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, abide by the United Nations Charter and other international law.

Beijing stands ready to work with the international community to continue to play a constructive role in deescalating the ongoing tensions, he said.
