LONDON - British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Wednesday urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and engage in direct dialogue to seek a swift diplomatic resolution.

In a statement issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Lammy emphasized the United Kingdom's (UK) close and unique relationships with both nations. "I have made clear to my counterparts in India and Pakistan that if this escalates further, no one wins," he said.

"We need all sides to work urgently to see regional stability restored and ensure protection of civilians," Lammy added.

During Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also addressed the situation, stating that "rising tensions between India and Pakistan will be of serious concern for many across Britain".

Starmer also noted that Britain is engaging urgently with both countries to promote dialogue, de-escalation, and the safeguarding of civilians.
