The six-day annual electric vehicle exhibition in Jakarta, concluded on May 4, showcases bigger potential for future adoption of EVs in the world's fourth-most-populous country, with analysts looking forward to partnership with China.

Attracting 143 EV brands, notably from China, Japan, and South Korea, the PERIKLINDO Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) 2025 saw a significant rise in the number of visitors and transaction values. PERIKLINDO held the exhibition in cooperation with Asiabike Jakarta.

On display were four-wheeled, three-wheeled, and two-wheeled electric vehicles. Automobile brands included Chinese products like BYD, Chery, Denza, DFSK, Seres and Wuling, which are already visible in Indonesia's largest cities and were the most visible in PEVS 2025. Those from other countries included BMW, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Morrish, Mini, and Prestige.

PERIKLINDO General Chairman Moeldoko expected more and more provincial governments to buy EVs for their operation so as to incite others in their areas to follow suit. During the exhibition, several regional representatives expressed their plan to buy electric passenger cars, buses and garbage trucks.

"Although the market situation is not that good at this time… there are still potentials that can be dug, from all electric car ecosystems, from B2B, B2G, and B2C," said Daswar Marpaung, president director of Dyandra Promosindo company on May 3.

He said Bali provincial authorities had already started adopting EVs to improve air quality in one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

Ching Chuen Chan, special adviser to PERKLINDO and founder of World Electric Vehicle Association, said the organization is carrying out its mission of making EV popular anywhere in the world.

"Now China can make high-end EV at low cost because China has complete supply change," he told China Daily correspondent. Named "Father of Asian Electric Vehicle" by Global View Magazine and "Asia's Best Technology Pioneer" by Asiaweek, Chan has an office in a number of places including Hong Kong. He said he advised PERIKLINDO "to learn from China's experience and to build Indonesia as a strong EV industry".

Chun Hendarto, founder and chairman of SEVIA (Seres Vehicle Indonesia Community), told China Daily correspondent that many city dwellers in Indonesia would buy small-sized EVs for them to easily drive through narrow alleys in their crowded residential areas.
