After ten years of accumulation, Deng, by virtue of his outstanding professional and technical abilities, was selected as a member of the construction team for the Saudi smart electricity meter project dispatched by the State Grid Corporation of China. During the ten months of the assistance and construction work, involving the installation of five million smart electricity meters and the deployment of the head-end acquisition system, he was confronted with a severe epidemic situation and the unstable situation around Saudi Arabia. Continuous airstrikes caused damage to various surrounding infrastructure, and substations were no exception. The sudden bombings by the drones of the Houthi armed forces led to a sharp drop in the system acquisition success rate from 81 percent to 40 percent. In the face of his family's concerns and the inevitable panic resulting from never having experienced terrorist attacks before, he still gritted his teeth, encouraged each other with his colleagues in the project department, and traveled all the way to Saudi Arabia, determined to complete the task and fulfill the mission regardless of whatever difficulties there might be.
