"Taiwan independence" separatist activities doomed a historical shame: FM
"Taiwan independence" separatist activities are the most destructive factors that undermine peace across the Taiwan Strait, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when addressing the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
Wang said that the Taiwan question is at the heart of China's core interests. Taiwan region's new leader Lai Ching-te and his followers have betrayed the Chinese nation and their forefather, and their despicable acts are contemptible, he said.
No matter how they stir up trouble, they cannot stop China from achieving complete reunification, Wang said, adding that Taiwan will inevitably return to the motherland and all the "Taiwan independence" separatists will become a historical shame.
He expressed appreciations to the member states of the SCO for their adhering to the one-China principle, and expressed the hope that they would continue to support the Chinese people in opposing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities.
