In essence, the "clash of civilizations" is violent defensiveness, containment and elimination of the challenges and potential threats to the Western civilization on the basis of its superiority of strength. Contrary to the notion of conflict embedded in Western civilization, China holds the belief that the world is a community of diverse civilizations. The differences between civilizations require to be addressed through peaceful exchanges. The relationship between civilizations is essentially equal, without any superiority or inferiority, which is a clear statement of the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China.
