A Chinese mainland spokeswoman denounced the Democratic Progressive Party on Taiwan for peddling the "two-state" theory, saying that any form of provocation for "Taiwan independence" is doomed to failure.

The island authorities claimed recently that the two sides across the Taiwan Straits are "not subordinate" to each other and the National Security Law for Hong Kong does not apply to Taiwan after HK media said an island scholar contravened the law.

Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that Taiwan is a part of China and it has never been a country.

The authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party are peddling the "two-state" theory by constantly hyping that the two sides are "not subordinate" to each other, she said.

Zhu said after the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong, Hong Kong has changed from chaos to governance and has won wide support and popularity among the Hong Kong people.

The rule of law has been protected, social stability and economic prosperity have been maintained, and the country's sovereignty, security and development interests have been safeguarded, she said.

In the face of the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" principle in Hong Kong, the DPP authorities' conspiracy to fool the people has been further exposed, she added.

The national security law is a key to maintaining Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Hong Kong residents, Zhu said.

The scope of application and specific provisions of the law are clear and anyone or any force who dares to break the law will be severely punished, she added.
