United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's attempt to tie the international community to its anti-China chariot will not succeed, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday after the US diplomat hyped the China threat and made accusations against Beijing on various issues during his visit to the Czech Republic on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Pompeo brings and spreads a political virus and disinformation wherever he goes," ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said during a daily news briefing, asking whether Pompeo ever feels guilty as he obsessively repeats lies day after day.

The Chinese embassy in the Czech Republic expressed opposition to Pompeo's mistaken remarks related to China. "In the name of so-called democracy and freedom, Pompeo is attacking China without any substantiation, tarnishing China, trying to make China a scapegoat for all existing problems and deliberately fomenting discord between other countries and China," the embassy said in a statement on Wednesday.

Quoting a Czech proverb that says "people are often caught in their own trap", the embassy urged Pompeo to stop interfering in China's internal affairs and subverting the unity and cooperation of the international community.

"Pompeo and his like have been trying to tie the international community to its anti-communist and anti-China chariot, making other countries its pawns," Zhao said.

The international community sees through it and will not buy it, he said, adding that peace-loving people will also not agree with such an attempt.

Despite Pompeo's relentless bashing and the downturn in bilateral ties, a recent survey conducted by the US-China Business Council showed that US companies are not leaving the Chinese market.

Projections about the five-year business outlook in China "seem bullish", with nearly 70 percent of companies that responded expressing optimism about the commercial prospects of the Chinese market, and 87 percent reporting that they have no plans to shift production out of China, according to the survey.

The survey showed that the international community has confidence in the market and business environment in China as well as the country's economic development, Zhao said.

China will continue to expand opening-up and improve its business environment, he said, adding that he thinks the development of China will bring more opportunities for enterprises from various countries and their cooperation will achieve more mutual benefits.
