TEHRAN -- Foreign ministers of Iran and Russia on Tuesday rejected a reported US new attempt concerning Iran's 2015 nuclear deal, official IRNA news agency reported.

In a telephone conversation, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Sergey Lavrov discussed the latest regional developments, as well as the reported US new nuke-related plan.

"Zarif and Lavrov dismissed the US new plan for JCPOA as impractical and delusional," said IRNA.

US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the United States from the nuclear deal, internationally recognized as the JCPOA, in 2018 and re-imposed financial and energy sanctions on Iran under the "maximum pressure" to press the latter for a renewed nuclear deal.

On Sunday, Western media reports said that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo "is reportedly drafting his team to come up with legal arguments as to how the United States is still a part on nuclear agreement" to use United Nations Security Council leverage to extend JCPOA-endorsed arms embargo on Iran which ends in six months.
