After Wuhan was locked down, people began worrying if the residents can carry on normal lives. Local authorities have planned ahead to ensure the public has sufficient supplies including food, protective gear and fuel to get through the tough time without panicking.

Protective gear

Ten local pharmaceutical companies have been producing masks, protective suits and body temperature scanners 24 hours a day to ensure sufficient supplies. They have also sourced those well-needed products from other provinces despite the cost.

Jointown Pharmaceutical Group based in Wuhan has distributed 500,000 masks, the majority of which were in Wuhan on Wednesday. That number has doubled on Thursday.

Medical care

Seven hospitals have been designated to solely deal with patients whose body temperature is over 37.3 C. Other patients at those hospitals have been transferred.

From Thursday, all patients with fever will be treated at the seven hospitals that will receive assistance from the other seven hospitals.

Enforcing new rules

People who refuse to wear masks in public areas including shopping centers and parks may be prosecuted for criminal liability. On Wednesday, the city government required people to wear masks at all times in public areas.

Food

Wuhan has stocked up sufficient food and the supply chain has been running smoothly. The government asked the public not to hoard things to avoid unnecessary waste.

Fresh vegetables

Many supermarkets have increased the stock of fresh vegetables to make sure they are always available.

More than 70 percent of vegetables are sourced outside the city and they will be transported to Wuhan as usual. The government has been in contact with major suppliers to increase the supplies of fresh vegetables.

E-commerce platforms will also provide services to deliver vegetables to people's doorsteps.

Water, electricity, natural gas and telecommunications

While the city government has announced that wartime measures are being implemented to fight the virus, it also vowed to ensure uninterrupted water, electricity, gas supplies and telecommunication service.

Fuel

Fuel suppliers have launched an emergency plan to ensure the stations that will be operating 24 hours a day have sufficient supplies.
