Beijing to promote intelligent connected vehicle industry
BEIJING - Beijing will commit to promoting the intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry and related industries, whose market value is expected to reach 100 billion yuan (around 14.4 billion US dollars) by 2022, according to a white paper released by local authorities Sunday.
Beijing will advance innovation and research on ICVs to ensure they can be used for the 2022 Winter Olympics, said the white paper issued by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology on the sideline of the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference held in Beijing from Oct 18 to 21.
A 50,000-hectare pilot zone will be established and over 2,000 km of roads will be earmarked in Beijing for testing ICVs.
The city will also accelerate construction of intelligent traffic system and the Internet of Vehicles, said the white paper.
The development of ICVs can improve traffic safety, meet energy saving and emission reduction targets, eliminate traffic congestion and bring social benefits.
