The move is unhelpful to mutual understanding between China and the US, Wang said, adding that China hoped the US will change such a negative mindset.
"Both China and the US are big countries, and we are well positioned to have greater cooperation in maritime safety and increase mutual trust," he said. "It will help us to make joint efforts toward world peace and stability."
Wang made a stopover in Washington on Wednesday on his way back to China after concluding a visit to Argentina.
