After an elaborate ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping on his first state visit to the United States, the heads of the two countries sat down for a formal summit, and emphasized that China and US should further advance the relationship.
"The China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world," said Xi. "Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 36 years ago, China-US relations have forged ahead despite twists and turns, and have made historic advances. "
Xi said that during the bilateral summit in June 2013 at the Annenberg Sunnylands retreat in Rancho Mirage, California,"President Obama and I agreed on working toward a new model of major-country relations between China and the United States. In the past two years, China-US relations have made significant progress, benefitting the people of our nations and the world."
"China would like to keep working with the US to implement the principle of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, cooperation and common prosperity and deepen bilateral, regional, and global cooperation, " he said. "The two sides should manage disputes and sensitive issues in a constructive manner, and advance China-US relations along the right track. "
