Xinhua | Updated: 2015-03-19 18:58

BEIJING - China has added its voice to international condemnation of Wednesday's deadly attack on the National Bardo Museum in Tunis, capital of Tunisia.

"China always opposes terrorism of any form and we condemn this terrorist attack on civilians," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily news briefing on Thursday.

He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and those injured as well as the government of Tunisia.

Hong also urged the international community to jointly address the challenge of terrorism.

At least 22 people, including 20 foreign tourists, were killed when gunmen attacked the museum, Tunisia's interior ministry said on Wednesday.

According to Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid, five terrorists carried out the attack, which also left 22 people injured. Two of the gunmen were shot dead by Tunisian security forces.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
