Regional Commissioner Nelson Marwa said the names have been forwarded to police for further investigation.

"We have reliable information that the leaders are using mosques to brainwash and incite youths to join in the protest on religious ground," Marwa said.

Coast Provincial Intelligence officer Ambrose Munyasia said a special team of police investigating the murder of Rogo have arrived in Mombasa from Nairobi.

He said they arrived on Tuesday night and immediately toured scene of crime on Wednesday morning and are expected to interview wife of Rogo, Haniya, who police believe has information that might assist in the arrest of attackers among other witnesses.

The spent cartridges of 7.5mm of an Ak-47 rifle collected from the scene were handed over to the team for further analysis.

The three-day violence in the tourist city frequently visited by both locals and foreigners has left four people, among them three police officers from the prison department, dead after an hand grenade was hurled at a Kenyan police lorry on Tuesday.

The three succumbed to their injuries while 11 others are still admitted at the local hospital but are out of danger according to doctors.

The calm in the city followed concerted efforts by government and police officers who have assured thorough investigation on the brutal murder of the Rogo linked with terror activities.

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga flew to Mombasa where he held crisis meeting with religious leaders comprising Muslims and Christians. The meeting resolved that Muslim leaders use mosques to preach peace and calm in the area.

Odinga said the government will compensate eight churches that were attacked and torched during the violence.

"The government will assist in the reconstruction of churches and businesses premises that were looted will also be compensated by government," Odinga said.

He directed the formation of an independent inquest to investigate the murder of Rogo immediately.

He announced nobody will be spared if they are found to be behind his execution. Muslim leaders who attended the meeting committed themselves in ensuring calm returns in the city where both religion coexist.

Kisauni area lawmaker Ali Hassan Joho which witnessed the serious clashes that left three prison warders killed said those Muslim clerics preaching hatred will be named and shamed.
