Blameless boy made to kneel to a dog

A boy was forced to kneel before a dog after mistakenly being singled out by the pet's owner as the one responsible for throwing a rock that struck the canine, Chongqing Commercial Daily reported on Tuesday.

The 6-year-old boy said he and other children were playing football when the dog was hit on Sept 12. The owner of the dog grabbed the boy, believing him to be the one who threw the projectile, and asked him to kneel down. The boy's parents called the police who made the man write an apology letter to comfort the frightened boy.

Rival poisons lover's ex-wife

Pan Jingjing, a 26-year-old textile worker in Anqing in East China's Anhui province, was rendered to a vegetative state after being poisoned with thallium by her ex-husband's wife, anhuinews.com reported on Tuesday.

Pan and her husband Awang filed for divorce after he had an extramarital affair, but they still lived together. According to a local intermediate court, bearing a grudge against the ongoing relationship between Pan and Awang, Pan's love rival, Lingling, a kindergarten teacher, planned to render Pan permanently disabled. Lingling bought thallium online and poisoned Pan's drinks on two separate days when the three were out together.

Ghost money in place of wages

A businessman who intended to buy counterfeit money to the value of 800,000 yuan ($130,037) to pay his workers' wages ended up being given "ghost money" instead, xdkb.net reported on Sunday.

A friend introduced Liu Ning to a contact to whom he paid 185,000 yuan ($30,071) for fake banknotes, which turned out to be ghost money. Knowing that purchasing counterfeit money was a violation of law, he told the police he was robbed. The police later discovered the truth and detained Liu and the fraudsters.

Old beggar takes three days to count holiday windfall

An old man, who begs for change to remit money home, has become something of a minor celebrity, the Beijing News reported on Tuesday. It has been revealed the man sends the money – mostly small change he has begged for from passers-by around Beijing West Railway Station – home almost every month. The amount is said to be worth 10,000 to 30,000 yuan ($1,625-$4,876) each time.

The man came into the public eye when a photo of him counting change in a post office was posted online. Staff at the post office said the beggar gives a 100 yuan ($16.3) tip to those who help him count the money. A person in the know also revealed that the man earned so much this Mid-Autumn Festival that it took him three consecutive days to count the money he was to remit.
