AIDS infection

A female university student in Wuhan, Hubei province, who planned to go abroad, became infected with AIDS after she had one night stands with eight overseas students.

A total of 3,885 people became infected with AIDS in Wuhan over the past 25 years, since the first case appeared in 1988, Wuhan Evening News reported.

Treasure sold

An imperial seal from Emperor Qianlong, who ruled China for much of the 18th century, was auctioned for 500,000 euros ($679,150) in France in November, Xi'an Evening News reported.

The treasure was suspected of being stolen from the Chinese emperor's Summer Palace, and Chinese netizens called for a cancellation of the auction.

Good Samaritan dies

A woman who helped victims of a traffic accident was killed along with another person while still at the scene. The woman, named Liu, was driving her high school daughter home when they saw an accident on their way to Taizhou. Liu called police and assisted the victims. After the ambulance left, Liu, her daughter and an employee of a nearby vehicle administration office were talking about the accident when a truck hit them, killing Liu and the guard.

Fire in women's prison

A fire broke out at about 4:45 pm on Saturday at the Shanghai Women's Prison in Songjiang district, Oriental Morning Post reported on Sunday. The fire started in a storeroom on the roof of a five-story dormitory and burned an area of about 300 square meters. The prisoners were evacuated, and no casualties were reported.
