The original OTIS elevator was commissioned by shareholder William O'Hara and installed in 1924 when an additional building was joined to the existing 1863 Astor Hotel. It is the first elevator ever in China, and also the first by OTIS. The elevator is still in use today. [Photo for chinadaily.com.cn] |
