Seasoned referees who served during the Olympics and Paralympics will judge events during the Universiade, according to the Games organizing committee.

The deputy head of the School of Physical Education at Hebei Normal University and of the referees’ committee of Chinese Table Tennis Association, Peng Hua, will be the deputy chief table tennis referee for the Games.

“Although there will be some professional athletes competing it, the Universiade is different from other sports events in that it focuses more on communication among contestants from different cultures. No matter how they perform, they will have a chance to interact with their peers,” said Peng, who was a judge at the Bejing Universiade in 2001 and has been a referee for most major table tennis tournaments.

Liu Jianli, who was a cycling judge at the Beijing Olympics, was excited and looking forward to the Games. It will be the first time the Universiade has included cycling as a sport.

All the cycling facilities in Longgang district have passed inspection by officials from the International Cycling Union (UCI).
