Cricket chief won't be contacting Warne

MELBOURNE, Australia _ Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland is treating Shane Warne's reported comments about a comeback to test cricket as just talk.

"Shane is happily retired as far as I understand," Sutherland said Wednesday. "I see him quite regularly, and I know that he has got enough on his plate without thinking about test cricket. He has certainly given people something to write about, but he's good at that."

In London, Warne, when asked about the possibility of a comeback, was reported to have said: "If the call comes, I will consider it."

The former test legspinner was in London to promote his new book, which features his appraisal of the top 100 players he competed with and against through his career.

Warne, the leading test-wicket taker of all time with 708 dismissals at the time of his retirement from international cricket two years ago, played 145 test matches for Australia.

Sutherland said he doesn't see Warne ever adding to that total.

"It's not for me to be talking to Shane in that sort of fashion," Sutherland said. "I think we should be focussing on the tremendous opportunity that Cameron White or Jason Krejza or Bryce McGain will have over the course of the summer."

At 39, Warne could conceivably give Australia an experience spin option in India, where it begins what is expected to be a difficult four-test series on Thursday.

After the injured McGain flew home, uncapped spinners Krejza and White face a nervous wait with only one of them expected to make their test debut in the first match in Bangalore.
