Alonso may have to reassess Fisichella threat

"We see everybody together at the beginning of this rules cycle," said the man responsible for Renault's V8 programme, Rob White. "Everybody does the work they think necessary to achieve the balance between reliability and performance.

"Clearly some of the engines that have broken have done so because they are intrinsically not reliable because we've seen some big mechanical failures."

One team who have surprised many with their engine reliability is McLaren, who lost Finn Raikkonen to a racing incident on the first lap of Sunday's race.

Team boss Ron Dennis has promised an improvement to the engine that powered Juan Pablo Montoya to fourth place on Sunday.

Honda's Button, who finished third on Sunday, said his team were in the best position to bridge the gap to the clearly superior Renaults.

"I finished 30 seconds ahead of the next car so it is just the Renaults that are very quick and seem to have the edge over us so we've got to hope we can solve the issues we've got next week and move forward because they need somebody to challenge them," said the Briton.
