Chinese actress Alyssa Chia (Jia Jingwen) has split up with her husband Sun Zhihao after four years of marriage and will fight for the custody of their four-year-old daughter.
Wu Dun, the actress' godfather confirmed her divorce with China News Service on Friday.
Chia tied the knot with Sun, an American-Chinese businessman from an affluent family background, in December 2005. Their marriage was rocky with constant reports in the tabloids about Sun's involvement with other women and Chia's thorny relationship with her mother-in-law.
Chia filed the petition for divorce according to the stipulation in U.S. law that "the parties have been separated for six months."
This April, Chia revealed the breakup of her marriage at a press conference, explaining that Sun had taken their daughter and left four months before. She said since then, she only had received a few video calls and phone calls from Sun, and had not seen her daughter.
The media later reported that Chia had met her daughter after multilateral coordination in the past few months.
Wu said that in the United States, courts usually grant custody of children to the mother after the parents divorce. But he said he was concerned whether Chia would win custody of her daughter, because the Sun family has more advantages in the United States.
