Chongqing 2D Materials Institute (C2DMI), an institution launched in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area last year, has drawn the international scientific research community's attention for its achievements.

The institute is led by Konstantin Novoselov, one of the graphene discoverers who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010.

C2DMI works on promoting 2D material application, preparation and characterization. It also focuses on applying graphene's transport properties, graphene-based intelligent wearable equipment, energy materials and devices and the application of functional coatings.

The institute aims to integrate international scientific research resources to attract researchers investigating new material applications, while also building an innovative R&D and market-oriented industrialization mechanism.

Since being established in September last year, C2DMI has published more than 10 papers in the Science Citation Index. This has laid a foundation for seeking cooperation opportunities, academic exchanges, joint R&D and attracting talent.

The institute's three industrialized projects – thermal conductive graphene composite reinforced materials, graphene nanobelt and metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD)-based zinc diffusion – are currently being implemented.

C2DMI is also cooperating with Chongqing University to build a training base that will provide university students with access to scientific research facilities. The institute has provided inspection, detection and application R&D services for dozens of universities and companies.

According to C2DMI's director, Ge Qi, the institute will continue integrating domestic and international research resources, improving R&D ability and promoting significant projects such as large-scale scientific facilities and international science summits.
