The sculpture of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) logo was unveiled at the bank's opening ceremony in Beijing on Jan 16. The sculpture was designed by Jiangsu's very own He Fang, an associate professor at Nanjing University of the Arts.
Speaking of the sculpture's design, He said that the application of raw stone and metal material in the sculpture implies the Chinese idiom "touch a stone and turn it into gold". It also refers to the Chinese proverb "good faith will move mountains", according to He.
Aside from creating the sculpture, He is the mastermind behind the design of AIIB's logo, which stood out from other entries to be selected for use on AIIB's official website last December.
The AIIB is a multilateral bank initiated by China which became operational on Jan 16. The launch of the bank marks a milestone in the reform of global economic governance.
