Sanmenxia vows to fight smog

Sanmenxia will attack air pollution and fight smoggy weather in 2014, according to the municipality’s environmental protection conference held recently.
The city will make air pollution prevention and control a priority this year and in the following several years. Pollutants like industrial waste gas, flying dust and vehicle emissions will be the main focus of the anti-smog campaign.
By 2017, the city’s concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 are expected to see reductions of over 15 percent and 10 percent, respectively, compared with 2012. Good air quality days will increase, and heavy air pollution days will drop sharply.
The city’s air pollution and control should not fall below the minimum qualified air days, a basic standard for the city’s air quality, otherwise it will be punished.
By applying Internet and mobile phone platforms, the corresponding authority will release information about PM2.5. Supervision and assessment on pollutants will also be carried out step by step. Smog prevention and control, heavy air pollution alerts and emergency management are all parts of the task. The public’s right to environment information should be respected.
In regards to major local emission resources, like Sanmenxia Huayang Power Generation Co and Henan Jinrong Cement Co, the city has decided to set limits on their total emissions. Heavy pollution industries, including metallurgy, construction materials and chemicals, must meet stricter standards in terms of timing, tasks and standards.
