Rain-affected PPRD conference reopens

FUZHOU - The sixth Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Cooperation Forum, postponed due to the rain-triggered disasters, has restarted preparatory work and will be held in Fuzhou from August 27 to 31.

The organizers revealed?last Saturday that the assembly invited 20 ministries. Attendees include the State Development and Reform Commission, representatives of the Central Government in Hong Kong and Macao as well as officials from the embassies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, regional cooperation organizations from the Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea, celebrities and representatives from Taiwan-funded enterprises, and representatives from business circles.

The sixth PPRD was scheduled for June 26 to 30 in Fuzhou, Fujian province. However, as geological disasters triggered by heavy rainfall since mid June continued to batter Fujian and the PPRD regions like Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, production and the lives of people were severely affected. Thus organizers agreed to put an extension to the opening date of the conference.

Themed "To Create the Future through Cooperation and Development," the sixth PPRD assembly was co-sponsored by Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hong Kong and Macao, with Fujian undertaking most of the events.

The conference highlights key cooperation issues regulated by the twelfth five-year plan, looking to raise the overall level of the PPRD regional cooperation to further strengthen the modernization of the PPRD regional cooperation in building an integrated transport network, enhancing the PPRD and the economic and trade exchange across Taiwan Straits, and promoting the innovation of regional family planning management.
