1st Cross-strait Juvenile Fine Arts Exhibition comes to Xiamen

Over 1,000 young painters, including those from Taiwan and the Sichuan earthquake-stricken area, along with famous calligraphers from across the strait, participated in the opening ceremony of the 1st "Cross-strait Juvenile Fine Arts Exhibition" in Xiamen on July 26.

Country artist He Shuifa, famous artist and art critic Xie Chunyan, artist Yang Sisheng, Taiwan calligrapher and fine arts educator Zhou Cheng and other cross-strait well known artists displayed their talents at the opening ceremony, drawing their wonderful visions on a large canvas along with the young painters.

Over 390 gold medal works were exhibited, bursting with children's imagination and creativity.

Zhou Cheng, Taiwan's first contemporary calligrapher, had a personal exhibition on display at the National Palace Museum. Zhou said the exhibition helped fine arts education across the strait.

Vice minister of the Fujian Provincial Commission Propaganda Department Zhu Qing, the deputy director of Taiwan Affairs Office Wei Zhongci, and many other municipal leaders were also on hand.

In his opening ceremony address, Zhu Qing said, "the competition is an art platform for mutual learning and improvement and a bridge for promoting friendship and harmony. It will make the young have a better understanding about historical cross-strait cultural relations and encourage them to establish the belief of inheriting and creating fine common traditions."
