LONDON -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, Downing Street has confirmed.
Brown will be at the closing ceremony when the Olympic baton is to be passed to London, the 2012 Olympics host city, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said late Wednesday.
Brown has repeatedly said that he will not boycott the Beijing Olympic Games.
"We will not be boycotting the Olympic Games; Britain will be attending the Olympic Games ceremonies," the prime minister said at a press conference on March 27 during French President Nicolas Sarkozy's visit.
At a Downing Street news conference on April 1, Brown said: "I think President Sarkozy said himself that he expected Britain, because we are going to host the next Olympics, to be present at the Olympic ceremonies and I will certainly be there."
