Elvis launching his comeback in 'Frisco

Elvis Dumervil is poised to join his third NFL team.

The veteran pass rusher on Monday agreed to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, according to a tweet from general manager John Lynch.

Dumervil, 33, has 99 career sacks over 11 seasons split between the Denver Broncos (2006-12) and Baltimore Ravens (2013-16), including 17 in 2014.

But the five-time Pro Bowler has managed just nine sacks over the past two seasons and was limited to eight games in 2016 due to a foot injury.

Baltimore released Dumervil in cost-saving move in March.

Patriots bolster offensive line

The New England Patriots on Monday signed offensive lineman Tony Garcia, the team's third-round pick in April's college draft.

The Pats also signed undrafted free agent defensive back Will Likely and released free agent defensive lineman Corey Vereen with an injury designation.

New England traded up to select Garcia out of Troy with the 85th overall pick. The 6-foot-7, 302-pounder did not allow a single sack in over 900 offensive snaps.

Likely, who was limited to six games due to an ACL injury in his senior season, collected 229 tackles and seven interceptions in 43 career games at Maryland.

Vereen, who signed with New England on May 5, recorded seven sacks in 13 games at Tennessee.

Deschamps hails 'fabulous' Zidane

France coach Didier Deschamps on Monday hailed the "fabulous destiny" of former teammate Zinedine Zidane, who led Real Madrid to consecutive Champions League titles on Saturday.

"It's a fabulous destiny ... nobody had done it," Deschamps said of Zidane's feat. "He was two-time European champion in a year and a half as coach. I'm very happy for him. It caps a season in which he was champion of Spain and champion of Europe. It's hard to do better."

Deschamps - winner of the 1998 World Cup alongside Zidane - coached Monaco to a runner-up spot in the 2004 Champions League.

Police question Atletico defender

Atletico Madrid defender Theo Hernandez, who has been tipped to sign with Real Madrid, has been questioned in relation to an alleged sexual assault during a holiday in southern Spain, a police source said on Monday.

"There was a complaint of a sexual assault which is being investigated," the source said, adding that nobody had been arrested.

Online newspaper El Espanol said the alleged incident involving the 19-year-old fullback occurred in a parking lot outside a club in the popular beach resort of Marbella.

Stricker won't have far to travel

After coming out of semi-retirement, US Presidents Cup captain and Wisconsin native Steve Stricker on Monday qualified for the first US Open to be played in his home state.

The 50-year-old Stricker shot 10-under 132 to assure he would be one of nine players who advanced to the year's second major, which will be played June 15-18 at Erin Hills, near Madison.

After being denied special exemption to the major, world No 84 Stricker ramped up his schedule to play his way into the tournament, which will be held about a 75-minute drive from his home.
