Lugu Lake is a plateau lake with an elevation of 2,690.75 meters. It’s the highest lake in Yunnan province. The lake has a total area of 48 square kilometers and an average depth of 45 meters. The lake's shores are inhabited by many ethnic groups, including Tibetans, the Mosuo, the Naxi and the Pumi. It takes about six hours to drive from Lijiang ancient town to Lugu Lake.

Preserved pork, the most famous traditional food of Lugu Lake, is strongly recommended. It is also known as lute-shaped pork. In the winter, the local Mosuo people preserve the pork with pepper and salt. The perfectly preserved pork will not go bad for several years. For Chinese people, meat and alcohol are the perfect union. When it comes to the alcohol in Lugu Lake, Sulima wine has to be mentioned. It is a traditional homemade wine of the Mosuo and Pumi people. Sulima wine is yellow and has low alcohol content. Mosuo and Pumi people like to host their guests with Sulima wine since it can help increase appetite.
