Home to many well-known equipment manufacturers such as Sany Group and China Railway Construction, Xinjiang Software Park plays an important role in the development of the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone.
In February 2016, the park was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a national technological incubator, complementing numerous other titles it received from the regional government, Urumqi city government and Urumqi development zone.
Its designation as a national tech incubator means the park now has access to preferential policies formulated by governments at different levels. It also means companies in the park can apply for financial and policy support from district, city and regional level governments simultaneously.
By making the most of Xinjiang’s geographical, language, talent and cultural advantages, the park has based its development structure on for main areas: cloud computing, Internet, the Internet of things and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, an undergoing project launched in 2000 that generates a turnover of more than $31 billion per annum.
As of now, 232 companies have registered in Xinjiang Software Park, including Xinjiang Broadcast Network, Sugon Information Industry and information security company Aisino. Authorities hope to build the park into an IT fore-runner in Northwest China in the future.
