Xinjiang region’s Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe District)is boosting general public health and medical services through a contract-based family doctor system, according to Weitai News on Aug 5.
The family doctor service, which came into operation in early 2015, sees patients sign health contracts with community physicians for all basic medical needs.
Family doctors deliver a range of free patient-centered services, from door-to-door physical examination, routine checkups, health consultations and referrals; making life easier for local residents.
Chenggang, director of a health care center in Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone, says that each family service team has a general practitioner, a health worker and a nurse, and can be contacted via telephone.
He also adds that the family doctor system aims to establish a hierarchical medical system and help all residents enjoy contractual services from family doctors.
Currently, about 75,475 residents have joined the contract-based family doctor scheme, accounting for 33 percent of the whole population of the zone. This is expected to reach 40 percent by the end of this year, according to the local health care service center.
