The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, held activities to publicize labor laws to local migrant workers at the construction site of Wanda Plaza on May 13.
Staff in charge of labor security supervision at the local human resource and social security bureau gave out pamphlets and materials about migrant workers’ rights, ways to safeguard employees' rights and labor contract laws to more than 100 construction workers. They also answered workers’ questions about wage disputes and insurance.
Legal publicity has helped migrant workers in many ways, according to Wu Baoying, a construction worker. "Thanks to the law publicity, my fellow workers and I now know legal ways to safeguard our rights," said Wu.
More than 3, 800 workers are participating in the constructing of Wanda Plaza in Toutunhe at present. According to project manager Fu Bing, the construction investor has tried its best to protect workers' rights and publicize laws. Wanda Plaza will cover 930,000 square meters of land when completed. So far, more than half of the construction has been completed.
More than 400 building projects are under construction in Toutunhe at present, with around 10,000 workers.
"The social security bureau will provide more legal services for employees to help them protect legitimate rights and interests and defend enterprises' benefits at the same time," said You Xianhui, vice-director of the local human resource and social security bureau.
