“It is very surprising to save more than 300,000 yuan ($48,000) per ton and reduce 0.3 percent transportation losses by using the new fully-automatic copper sack filling machine,” manager Zhang, a customer representative, said at the “Liang Yun” cargo ship, which is a 5,250 ton copper working site. Copper and sack filling tasks are normal work for the port, but it is new to combine them into a new fully-automatic assembly line in the Country’s port.

In the past, there were some leakage and pollution problems during the copper transportation and unloading processes, which not only affected the environment of the port but also brought unnecessary losses to the customer.
Recently, due to the increasing customers’ needs of a port which has an environmental working place, and as the traditional port company – Tianjin Port No 5 Stevedoring Co ltd – are facing greater competitive pressures, the upgrading and restructuring of the company is imperative.

To realize “zero leakage and zero pollution” of copper work, the leaders of the company were sent to many country’s ports including Lianyungang to investigate and study how others dealt with such problems. Combining many experiences from universities, port companies and social scientific research institutions, the Tianjin Port No 5 Stevedoring Co has developed many new technologies including a “25t-35m new grab portal crane”, a “gearbox for a portable grab crane” and a “full-automatic copper sack filling machine”, which help them to reach the win-win situation of customer development and associated social benefits.

The new fully-automatic copper sack filling technology totally overturns the traditional way of copper working. “We have almost forgotten what the color of copper looks like now,” the workers joked.
The company will continue promoting this clean work mode, to build a green working brand regarding grain commodities to provide better services to the customer.
