Shandong Dongping Economic Development Zone is a provincial-level zone that was built in 2002, with a planned area of 35 square kilometers and a built-up area of 17 sq km.

A total of 236 enterprises have settled in the zone, making up an industrial system dominated by six characteristic parks: household paper, advanced equipment manufacturing, electronic appliances, biomedicine, fine chemicals and leisure food. Industrial upgrading and innovation have been accelerated significantly.

In 2016, the zone was listed 29th of the comprehensive ranking of development zones in Shandong province, and became a first-class development zone.

By June 2019, the development zone had attracted 2.49 billion yuan ($353 million) in fixed assets investment, its main operating income had reached 18.33 billion yuan, and its profit tax had reached 1.52 billion yuan.

The development zone has eight Chinese famous brands, seven Chinese well-known trademarks, and 25 famous trademarks of Shandong province. It has built one academician workstation, five provincial technology centers, and 10 municipal technology centers, which have obtained more than 880 national patents. It is home to 11 national high-tech enterprises, 24 provincial high-tech enterprises, and seven national leading agricultural enterprises.

The development zone actively cultivates listing resources and assists companies in listing financing, including Ruixing Group, Dongshun Group and Guangda Group. Dongshun Group has become one of the largest tissue paper production bases in China. New Dongyue Group's motorcycle tire production ranks first in the industry. Shandong Longmei Biomedical Technology Co owns world-leading technologies. Shandong Boda Photoelectric Co has the largest production capacity of optical quartz in Asia, and also helps to formulate national industry standards.

The development zone has built a chemical industry park, traditional industry park, machinery processing and manufacturing park, high-tech industrial park, material and food processing park, and a modern service industry park.

It has been rated as Most Influential Industrial Park in China, National Agricultural Industrialization Cluster Park, Best Park for Investment in Shandong Province, Provincial New Industrialization Industrial Demonstration Base, Provincial Eco-industrial Park and Provincial Demonstration Park of Safety Standardization.
