Yang Linping, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), attended and addressed the forum on the rule of law in cyberspace at the first China Internet Civilization Conference held in Beijing on Nov 19.

Yang said the forum, with a focus on internet rule of law of civilization and personal information protection, is a response to public concerns under the background of "Internet +" by discussing hot topics of the rule of law, adding that the forum is very meaningful for further promoting the rule of law in cyberspace, improving the law-based cyberspace governance, and making the digital economy better serve and integrate into the new development pattern.

The rapid development of the digital economy has brought opportunities and challenges that we have never met before, Yang said. Courts are actively responding to the demands of the era and the expectations of the people, working together with related departments to make coordinated policies to stick to reforms and exploration on strengthening personal information protection and law-based cyberspace governance.

The courts will fully deepen smart court construction, build internet courts, issue online litigation rules and judicial interpretations on regulating face identification applications, and try a number of internet related cases that have extensive influence in society. They have made positive contributions to building a clean cyberspace and promoting the legal and regulated development of the digital economy, Yang said.

She said that the SPC is willing to cooperate with all walks of life to follow the development of the digital economy era and strengthen the studying of and response to new situations emerging in cyberspace so as to write a new chapter for internet civilization.
