The death penalty given to Sun Wenbin, who killed a doctor at a hospital in Beijing, was upheld by the Beijing High People's Court on on Feb 14.

Sun, 55, was sentenced to death by the Beijing No 3 Intermediate People's Court for intentional homicide on Jan 16, after he was identified as fatally stabbing doctor Yang Wen with a knife at the Civil Aviation General Hospital in the capital's Chaoyang district on Dec 24.

Yang was seriously injured at that time and died the following day.

After the ruling was announced, Sun showed his dissatisfaction with it and appealed to the high people's court.

But the high people's court said after a second trial that the ruling made by the lower court was no problem, with sufficient evidence, correct application of the law and reasonable sentence, so it rejected Sun's appeal and kept the original verdict.

The death sentence of the man has been submitted to the Supreme People's Court, the country's top court, for a review, as the Chinese Criminal Procedure Law clarifies that a death penalty can be carried out only when getting an approval from the highest court.
