The head of China’s top court called for better judicial functioning and deepening the implementation of justice for the people during an inspection tour in Central China’s Henan province from Dec 13 to 14.

Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), visited the fourth circuit court of the SPC in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province and learnt about the work of the court.

He said the court has made great contribution to local social and economic development since its founding on Dec 28, 2016; a good reflection of the success of the national judicial reform.

Zhou said he hoped the court will keep deepening judicial reform and build up its talent pool to make new progress in serving the people.

On Dec 14, Zhou went to Ningling and Sui counties and visited local people living in poverty.

He demanded that the local court staff help solve practical problems and gave a scholarship to local students, encouraging them to keep on studying hard.

At the Zhengzhou intermediate people’s court, Zhou listened to the work report from Zhang Liyong, president of the Henan High People’s Court and exchanged views and ideas with deputies to the National People's Congress.

He said that courts in Henan should work hard to meet people's increasing and varying judicial needs and take concrete measures to solve the problem of defaults in payment of migrant workers’ wages.

Zhou said local courts should learn from past experience and work hard to fulfill the goal of “basically breaking the bottlenecks in law enforcement in two to three years’ time”.
