China's top tribunal held a symposium on Oct 20 and 21 in Beijing to promote the communicative and cooperative mechanism between the courts and the media.

The symposium is aimed at constructing a positive interaction between the two sides, and safeguard fairness and justice, and thus promoting the rule of law in China.

Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, thanked all the media representatives for their hard work in reporting about the people’s courts and the judicial reform.

Legal organs in China strictly adhere to judicial fairness and justice, said Zhou, adding that Chinese courts respect and guarantee the media's right of supervision in accordance with the law.

Zhou said that through media reports, courts can achieve the goal of "letting people experience justice and fairness in every judicial case."

Law enforcement is something the public cares a lot about, said Zhou. He demanded that courts of various levels in China to respect the rules and functions of the media and has responded to the concerns of the people in an innovative manner through close cooperation with media.

Traditional media and Internet media should show their own advantages in courts reporting, according to Zhou.

Over 30 representatives from the state media and online media talked about their own perspectives and gave suggestions at the meeting.
