The Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China released 10 cases illustrating protection of rights and interests of the disabled ahead of the 26th National Handicapped Day, which falls on May 15 this year.

The cases are an important demonstration of the administration of justice, as is their release by the court. They stem from the court’s application of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Disabled Persons.

The ten cases - on the right to health, marital autonomy, right of succession, right to work and property rights, among others - encourage the disabled to pursue an active and self-reliant attitude.

The SPC said that the legitimate rights of disabled persons are protected under the rule of law and it will join with the rest of society to create a respectable and supportive legal environment for a moderately prosperous society for the disabled.

China has 85 million handicapped people and the protection of their rights and interests is important for long term social stability.
