Zhou Qiang, China’s top judge and president of the Supreme People’s Court met with a delegation led by Luo Ying-shay, head of Taiwan's legal affairs administrative body in Beijing on March 29.

Zhou introduced mainland courts’ progress in implementing the Cross-strait Joint Fight against Crime and Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement, which was signed by the Chinese mainland and Taiwan in 2009.

More than 50,000 cases have been handled under the agreement. The SPC has improved the efficiency and quality of trials involving mutual legal assistance through making judicial interpretations, strengthening professional supervision and guidance, promoting information-based case management, and simplifying procedures, Zhou noted.

He looked forward to closer communication between the mainland and the island and hoped to enhance mutual understanding and make greater contributions to the benefits of people on both sides and the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations.

Luo appreciated the achievements on implementing the agreement and informationization made by courts in the mainland and said she will continue to promote exchange and cooperation in all fields under the agreement.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the China Court Museum and the SPC’s Information Center. Tao Kaiyuan, vice president of the SPC also attended the meeting.
