China’s top official of public security Meng Jianzhu announced guidelines for coping with changes and trends in the fight against terrorism at home and abroad at an anti-terrorism conference in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Dec 10.

He emphasized the preeminent importance of improvement in the country’s efforts to battle terrorism, and urged that people’s rights of life and property, as well as national security and social stability, should be safeguarded. Over the past year, Xinjiang has achieved remarkable results in cracking down on terrorist attacks, smashing a group of extremist gangs and violent terrorists and protecting the right of life and property of all ethnic groups while maintaining State security and social stability, Meng said.

It is important for the security forces to see the anti-terrorism fight as a long-term, sharp and complicated fight, which requires heightened alertness and sober understanding about terrorist crimes, he added.

The security chief also called for cooperation with international anti-terrorism bodies to provide maximum protection for overseas Chinese individuals and enterprises.

Zhang Chunxian, Party chief of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Chinese State Councilor Guo Shengkun, China’s top justice Zhou Qiang, and president of the Supreme People's Procuratorate Cao Jianming attended the conference.
