New Year's message for 2020

Professors, students, alumni and friends:

As the year of 2020 starts, I want to extend my sincerest wishes to all teachers and students and retired comrades -- and wish all our alumni all over the world Happy New Year on behalf of the Party committee and the administration of Shanxi University.

Over the past year, Shanxi University made the best use of development opportunities to increase its strength. And, thanks to our hard work and innovative spirit, we made great progress in fostering our development into a world-class university with world-class disciplines.

In 2019, Shanxi University was identified by the Ministry of Education in the first batch of university bases for commercializing technological achievements and technology transfers, being the only university recognized in Shanxi province.

We improved our subjects, highlighted our advantages and boosted the integrated development of disciplines. We strengthened our teaching and research team building by introducing nine high-end talent and had hundreds of teachers and professors recognized by national and provincial talent development programs.

We greatly increased scientific research investment to over 300 million yuan ($43.22 million) and created academician and scientific and research achievements, with 704 papers published in the SCI and 707 papers published in the CSSCI.

We further advanced our open education and carried out cooperation over the past year. Shanxi University signed and renewed cooperation and exchange agreements with 16 well-known overseas universities, selected nearly 300 students to study abroad and recruited 508 long-term and short-term international students from 49 countries in the past year.

Partnerships with domestic universities such as Peking University, Zhejiang University and University of Science and Technology of China were further advanced or established. Cooperation with governments of cities and companies in Shanxi province were also advanced.

In addition, we greatly improved the school's infrastructure with the capping of the main teaching and scientific research buildings in the first phase of Dongshan campus completed.

This year, we'll provide greater space for the future development of the university. We'll promote the development of first-class disciplines, integrate teaching resources and improve training programs to better serve the socioeconomic development of Shanxi province.

I hope that everyone will forge ahead with determination to create a wonderful future for Shanxi University.
