Shanxi University and the government of Jincheng city in Shanxi province signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly establish an Optoelectronic Information Industry Research Institute in the metropolis.

The institute will focus on bottlenecks that are restricting the development of Jincheng’s optoelectronic information industry.

It will conduct core technology research into optical engineering designs, optical precision measurements as well as optical precision coating.

In addition, the institute will research optical sensing, optical communications device manufacturing, opto-mechatronics, optical medical area, artificial intelligence and data mining.

University officials said it aims to achieve a body of influential scientific research results.

According to the agreement, SXU will be responsible for guiding the establishment of the institute, the construction of talent teams, the promotion of scientific research projects, the construction of key laboratories, and the introduction and transformation of scientific research achievements.

The government of Jincheng will provide operating expenses and scientific research equipment. It will also provide support in high-level talent recruitment, major scientific research project applications and talent settlement.

A nameplate unveiling ceremony of the Optoelectronic Information Industry Research Institute was held in Jincheng on Nov 14, with the attendance of more than 70 officials from SXU and the Jincheng government.
